I thought I’d kick off #PumpkinWeek2016 with a bang this year and share with you this Adorable Turkey Crust Pumpkin Pie. The key to assembling the turkey crust so he doesn’t drown in all that luscious pumpkin filling is to bake the pumpkin pie partially before adding Mr. Tom Turkey on top. That way the custard pie will be set enough so that the turkey crust will sit on top of the pie, and won’t be eaten up and fall to the bottom of the pie.
When purchasing vegetables and herbs for homemade herbed chicken stock, it’s best (and healthiest) to keep them all organic, if possible. When it comes to choosing organic poultry, you’ll find that you get even more flavor out of a smaller organic chicken than a larger non-organic chicken, which makes buying organic easier on your wallet than you may have thought.
What I love most about this Baked Salmon Salad Spread is that the flavor isn’t too fishy tasting, which for me can sometimes be a turnoff. The mild fish flavor is balanced nicely with bright, fresh lemon zest, dried dill weed, and a touch of sweet pickle relish.
The recipe I’m sharing today for Chocolate Pecan Pies Bars is from fellow food blogger friend, Joan of Chocolate, Chocolate and More, who sadly died unexpectedly only a few short months ago. To say that the food blogging world was knocked off its axis into a world of shock and disbelief, is an understatement.
With the popularity of sheet pan dinners going through the roof, I wanted to bring you a recipe that would utilize some of autumn’s best-tasting vegetables and flavors, along with the always popular, moist and meaty, boneless and skinless chicken thigh. The result is this Easy Maple Mustard Chicken Thigh Sheet Pan Supper.
I’m adding this recipe for Savory German Bratwurst Sauerkraut Strata with Pretzel Rolls to my list of Oktoberfest favorites. It has all the German flavors I love combined into one casserole dish, and then baked to perfection. Hearty, meaty chunks of German bratwurst are simmered in beer and caraway before […]
I’m not usually one to follow traditions when it comes to food and food holidays like Thanksgiving. What can I say? I get bored easily, and I like to try new things. It’s not always something that my family appreciates, but if I’m the one doing the cooking, then I’m the one who gets to decide what’s on the menu. *insert evil laughter here*
Creamy New England Sweet Corn Risotto with Shrimp is a great way to use up the last of summer’s bounty of sweet corn. It’s a creamy and delicious seafood main course that can be on the dinner table in approximately 30 minutes. This year my husband and I didn’t plant […]

When you’re looking for something a little sweet but not cloyingly so, this Chocolate Cranberry Quick Bread with Pecans fits the bill, perfectly.
You guys, it’s apple season! Can you feel the slight chill in the air and the warm scent of cinnamon that is just about everywhere? Yeah, me either but I’m hopeful that it will happen soon. Even though it’s September, today in Illinois where I live the temperatures are supposed to be in the 90’s with a heat index in the 100’s. UGH! Oh well. Since there’s nothing I can do about the outside temperatures, I might as well make it feel like fall on the inside and cook up a batch of Slow Cooker Homestyle Apple Pear Sauce with Amaretto.
When you don’t have time to fuss after a long day to get dinner on the table, with very little preparation in the morning you can have this delicious and easy Mexican Slow Cooker Pork Tacos with Rice meal waiting to eat almost as soon as you walk in the door.
Back in the 70’s (my high school days) I remember cucumber dip being all the rage. It was a tangy mix of grated cucumber, sour cream, and onion. I decided to revisit what I recall was my favorite dip, and (naturally) add my own twist to it for a 2016 update.
Whenever I’m at an American county fair or street festival, I always make a beeline directly to the corn dog stand. Corn dogs have always been something I crave, and they’re the one “food on a stick” that I enjoy more than all the others. Until now, of course. For me, a hot and hearty “Corn-Wurst” now takes the blue ribbon in my heart.
This recipe for Seared Salmon Fillets with Pistachio Basil Butter is elegant enough for company, and yet easy enough for a busy weeknight. I cannot take credit for this fabulous recipe for these seared salmon fillets, although I sure wish I could. This recipe comes from a cookbook called The Quick […]
